Ebony Wright is running for city council to represent the Sleepy Hole Borough of Suffolk. She has over twenty-five years of legal, management and leadership experience, to include governance, policy development and resource management. She is a civil servant with significant experience at the executive leadership level, enabling organizations to successfully accomplish their mission.
Ebony is a servant leader and change maker with the right vision, determination, and background to move Suffolk forward. With a passion for community consensus, she will be a voice for everyday citizens in decision-making, development, and implementation of policies that impact everyone in our city.
Suffolk deserves a leader who will bring fresh perspective, accountability, a plan to tackle our most pressing issues, and most importantly, have compassion and empathy for its citizens. Together we can build a city where every neighborhood thrives, every voice is heard, and every resident can feel safe and proud to call Suffolk home.
Ebony's children graduated from Suffolk public schools. She has seen the doorways that open for young people when they have access to quality education. As your next Councilwoman, Ebony will improve the quality of local public schools by advocating for adequate funding to improve student readiness, improve our facilities, and enhance the safety of our students and staff.
Suffolk is one of the fastest growing cities in Virginia. With that growth comes exciting opportunities, but also a pressing responsibility to ensure that city council addresses the complex problems the city faces. If our city is flourishing, then every neighborhood should be able to see the fruits of that achievement. As your next Councilwoman, Ebony will be proactive in ensuring the city prioritizes infrastructure investments where they are needed most and will ensure that citizens' voices are part of the decision making process.
Public safety is achieved by first safeguarding our heroes, our first responders and their families. Public safety is more than just the presence of law enforcement, fire and rescue, and animal control. It's the careful implementation of thoughtful policy that puts the safety and dignity of our citizens first. It’s about ensuring we can attract and retain excellent first responders in a competitive region like Hampton Roads. It’s about state of the art technology and upgrading data systems, and expanding services. As your next Councilwoman, Ebony will advocate for a comprehensive approach to public safety that maximizes the impact of public funds.
Ebony moved to Suffolk over 20 years ago and in that time Suffolk has changed a lot. It has been blessed with new industry and new opportunities. Small businesses benefit the community by creating jobs and encouraging economic growth. Taxes paid by small businesses pay for community improvements such as schools, public transit, and first responders. As your next Councilwoman, Ebony will advocate for incentives to help small businesses and will fight to ensure the presence of heavy industrial development does not impact the lives of longtime residents or our natural resources.
